PORTO CALÇADO

Discover the Múrtega creek, which runs between the
riparian thickets of oleander, large pink flowers with sweet-smelling. Walk on
the shingles and discover the sounds of running water.

Go to
Noudar Castle and walk the ancient shale road that once led to Moura. During
your hike you will see birds of prey, olive wood flowers and the cliffy valley
of the Múrtega river.

Walk down
the dirt road from Noudar Castle, observe the Ardila river’s narrow curve that
has name this trail (‘the Mango trail’). Recover your strength with fresh
fountain water at Fonte da Figueira, an ideal spot for a picnic.

MOINHO DE ÁGUA (Water Mill)

Walk through a forest of holm oaks and olive wood and
discover one of the Múrtega river’s water mill: the Porto da Vinha mill and its
dam. They were built to withstand the river’s periodic floods and were used for
the production of flour - an essential
element of the Mediterranean diet. Discover
the river’s fauna and flora.
