Animal husbandry
In the vast area of the Park’s holm oak grove (‘montado’) one can observe fine specimens of mertolengo bovines, raised in an extensive regime. Our aim: to make Noudar bovines a national reference for the mertolengo breed, with high genetic quality. The choice of this native breed is justified not only by the fact that it is widespread in the region but also because of the Herdade da Coitadinha’s historical background - on the the breed’s characteristic fur color was originated in this area. During the montanheira season – from November to February - the montados house several specimens of Black Iberian pig to be fattened up with acorn, the holm oak fruit. ![]() |
