Project designation: PRO-IBERLINX – Protection and Conservation of the Iberian Lynx

Objectives:
The general objective consists of consolidating cross-border relations through the joint development of management and habitat improvement actions, aiming at the reintroduction of the Iberian Lynx in different Cooperation Project areas, and the monitoring of existing populations in Portugal and Spain. This includes conducting joint awareness, training, and on-site engagement activities with communities in various Iberian Lynx territories, which will expand the scope and widespread acceptance among the population.
The specific objectives are:
- Management, conservation, and improvement of habitats and natural resources.
- Sensitization and involvement of local communities.
- Promotion and enhancement of the natural values of the territories, based on the identity of the Iberian Lynx.
Expected results:
- Habitat improvement and enhancement of natural resources in an area of approximately 33,000 hectares, encompassing the Natura 2000 areas in the municipalities of Moura and Barrancos in Baixo Alentejo, Silves and Monchique in Algarve, and the Spanish municipalities of Valencia de Mombuey, Oliva de La Frontera, and the surrounding area of the Junta de Extremadura.
- Increase in the population of wild rabbits.
- Implementation of an expanded shared information network covering the project territories.
- Implementation of wildfire prevention measures.
- Reforestation of disadvantaged areas.
- Sensitization and involvement of communities in the protection and conservation of natural values.
